Meet May, a remarkable example of dedication and the power of a supportive fitness community! May’s journey to Rail Stop Fitness began in July 2023 with a desire to find a gym close to home with group classes. “I wanted to work out with other people. With so many classes at different times, I had no excuse not to get back in shape,” she shared.
Before joining, May’s fitness routine was inconsistent. “I had all the weights, bands, kettlebell, treadmill, etc., at home, but trying to work out in my basement with an app on my phone wasn’t working. I’d get distracted by my dog, chores, TV, and work. I wasn’t self-motivated and would do a soft workout that didn’t even make me sweat. I hadn’t worked out since COVID, so I decided to get back into it.”
Since joining Rail Stop Fitness, May has achieved remarkable consistency. “I plan my work and life around my gym schedule and because I’ve committed to doing that, it works for me. I’m not being a slacker anymore,” she said proudly.
One of her biggest accomplishments is mastering the wall handstand. “I was afraid of being upside down before, and now I’m not! My goal is to get toned and avoid injury.” Although she doesn’t have a favorite movement, she’s proud of not fearing the 35lb barbell anymore.
May’s favorite aspect of Rail Stop Fitness is the community. “I love seeing regulars and really enjoy the people. They are all very supportive, friendly, and have such unique lives. I love the partner workouts because they change up the routine.” This community has turned into some amazing new friendships. “Whether it’s the 9am class, Saturday class, weekly Run Clubs, I get to see different people all the time. I love how people say, ‘See you tomorrow,’ at the end of class to keep us motivated.”
For those hesitant about joining, May says: “I didn’t even know what CrossFit was when I joined. I joined because there were group classes. If I can do it, anyone can. I like the challenge of getting out of my comfort zone and doing new things, like the Murph Challenge.
