Meet Mike, Rail Stop Fitness’ October 2023 Spotlight Athlete. Mike joined just over a year ago, when his wife “voluntold” him he’d be joining her at the gym after his solo gym workouts didn’t find him meeting his fitness goals. Since joining, Mike has lost 25 pounds, seen his resting heart rate decrease dramatically and made amazing fitness gains.
Over the past year, Mike has definitely put in the work participating in group classes as well as being a regular member of our Barbell Club. His dedication has led to a nearly 200lbs increase in his deadlift and 150lbs in his back squat. Additionally, Mike has seen amazing improvements in his cardio stamina. As one could imagine, the deadlift is one of Mike’s favorite movements, but he also enjoys a challenging sandbag squat.
Mike’s favorite part of the gym are the people and the coaches. “The community is absolutely amazing and helps motivate me constantly. The coaches are great, the fact that they’re willing to do what it takes to motivate me safely goes miles in my book.” His workout buddy is definitely his wife, though they don’t get to workout much together due to her schedule as a nurse. Mike says, “she motivates me because I want to better myself for her.” Adding, “and, I can’t let her get more fit than me!”
When asked what he’d tell someone who is considering starting at Rail Stop Fitness, Mike noted, “try it, just take the chance.” “Before I joined, I had the expectation that you had to be in shape before you started. Going through the Foundations Course, I learned that wasn’t the case. Everything can be scaled to your fitness level!” Congratulations and thank you to Mike for being our October Athlete Spotlight and sharing your fitness journey story!
